i won't miss these bright artificial lights
or the sound of the cars driving by
i won't miss the relentless heat
of these exposed summer nights
the thing that keeps me going
that keeps me from complaining too much
is the knowledge that there are so many
who have it so much worse
i have so much to be grateful for.
