this is the terrain where i feel most at home. for the first 18 years of my life i lived just a few hours east of here. it's all so familiar - the desert grass and bushes and occasional wildflowers, the insects and reptiles and especially the big wide open sky. one of my favorite childhood memories is watching the summertime storms roll in, almost every afternoon. i love the wind that brings the smell of rain, the constantly shifting textures of the sky, and the electricity in the air just before the storm breaks. i experienced all of these things today and it made me very happy.
